The weather was good today, so after lunch [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise, Katie, and I set out for Babies R Us to look at jogging strollers and the next larger size of car seats. None of the strollers was quite what I was looking for, so we'll probably look further on the web. I was a bit distressed to realize that the convertible car seat that I liked best was the Eddie Bauer version. *sigh*

When we got home, Gretchen and I went out and rearranged the garage so that we could get the new, really big garbage and recycling cans in. We also grabbed a couple of boxes of grid-hanging DVD shelves off the rack to go to the storage locker so that WindyCon can use them in the Print Shop, since we've never found a good use for them.

Finally, we assembled the new grill that's been sitting in the living room since January, shortly before I trashed my knee. This eliminated the really big box that was holding up a variety of things that needed to be put away.

I've just e-mailed out the WindyCon meeting minutes from the March meeting where [livejournal.com profile] shsilver was good enough to cover for me. In a minute, I'll head upstairs to e-mail copies of the SpaceTime scripts for Duckon. And then, I'll play a bit of guitar for Gretchen and Katie.

FWIW, the Eddie Bauer and the Cosco Alpha Omega are the two seats that have the undiluted approval of our Injury Prevention coordinators, who are trained in seat installation, etc. Whay don't you like it?

I suspect because of the yuppiness of the brand name.

We have the Eddie Bauer convertible seats... and we love them. I think even Alex approves. They're very easy to install whether you use LATCH or just regular seat belts. And at least when we looked, the COSCO version which is essentially the same seat without the name had one big disadvantage. They were using some sort of screwey puzzle lock mechanism, where the main metal buckles had to be fit together oragami style before they could be insterted in the buckle. Quite odd.

Yeah we ended up with one in each car. It's just easier given that generally one of us drops Alex off at daycare and the other picks up.

Just for the record, we have/had the Cosco seats and after using some other friends' Eddie Bauer seats I really wish we'd had those instead; the Bauer seats are very sturdy and easy to use, and they can convert later to booster seats. The five-point harness on the Cosco seats had a buckle that was not easy, not intuitive and other people especially had a devil of a time figuring out. The straps also got very twisted up (partly because the strap material wasn't thisk or rigid enough), so we were constantly untwisting and trying hard not to curse. They do convert to booster seats, though, and now that we use the regular seat belts with them as booster seats life is much better. But if I had to do it over I'd buy the Eddie Bauer without hesitation. Despite the yuppie stigma. ;)

Have you looked at the Britax seats. They're not cheap, but they are rated very high. After all, Katie is irreplaceable.

They are not always available at Toys R Us. Try looking at the Right Start stores or online.

Our problem with those was that the Eddie Bauer seat was rated almost as high as the Britax, but the price of the Britax was about double the cost and he'd be out of it in a year and a half. The Eddie Bauer converts to a booster and, theoretically, it will be the last one we buy.

If it was me, I'd hold my nose and buy the Eddie Bauer seats. You can always slap a Mr Yuk sticker over the logo.
