So I finally went back down to the studio to try to resume mixing on [livejournal.com profile] catalana's and my albums. However, a new version of the anti-virus software had downloaded and the system wanted to reboot. Ok, let's give it a try.

And the second disk in the RAID array failed again. Ack!

I took this as a hint. So I've now removed the old hard disks, turned off the motherboard RAID, installed the new SATA RAID controller, installed the pair of 400 GB SATA hard drives (removing the slow-down jumpers from them), and have installed Windows XP Professional.

Which I'm now updating to Service Pack 2. And pulling down all of the security updates.

After which I can reinstall the software that I need for mixdown.

If I'm lucky, I'll be back to mixing some time tomorrow.

Sigh.

On the one hand, I read your post saying, "You haven't updated to SP2 yet?"

On the other hand, every time I run an update on an MS product I lose features I use.

And here I thought RAID Kills Bugs Dead!

Nope! It's in kahoots with them!

The more complicated the plumbin', the easier it is to stop the drain.

This is why I hate automatic updates. There's often the risk of something breaking.

Isn't state-of-the-art technology wonderful? :)
