Hmmmm... let's see... Dark Energy has been blamed for the fairly recent discovery that the expansion of the universe appears to be accelerating.

So... if consciousness is linked to said expansion, we are either going to quickly evolve into non-corporeal energy-beings, or our heads are going to explode like in the movie Scanners. BOOM! SPLAT! Ewwwwwww...
