Cleaning Up

billroperOne of the problems with holiday weeks is that it pushes our garbage pickup out a day from Friday until Saturday. This is *particularly* a problem at Christmas because of the sheer volume of garbage and recycling that we generate during Christmas.
We have decided to make it worse.
We are cleaning.
More to the point, we are trying to reclaim the dining room which turned into a craft room at the beginning of COVID, then was used for storage of appliances and stuff from the kitchen during the great kitchen renovation, and which has never been successfully excavated since. But we are extremely tired of not having a dining room and company is coming, so something is about to give.
That would be our garbage bin, which is exceedingly full on Tuesday. Happily, some of the stuff that is in there is compressible, and it is *going* to be increasingly compressed over the next few days until the garbage bin develops the maneuverability of a white dwarf star, which will make it ever so easy to push to the curb on Friday night.
The recycling bin has a bit more space in it, but that's because I expect that there will be lots more random bits of recycling to go in there in the next few days once company arrives, so I have started sorting the cardboard bits out into an auxiliary box that can just be placed on top of the recycling bin come Friday.
Come Friday, it will all overflow.
Come Friday, this bin has to go.
It took eight days to fill
And it's starting to spill
And I just want it out of my sight.
Tomorrow, it's off to Goodwill to dispose of various bits and pieces of use to someone else, but not to us any more. This includes a pair of shoes purchased at Goodwill some time ago that still have the Goodwill sticker on the sole of the shoes. Ah, well. It must have seemed like a good idea at the time.
