Not As Vanilla As It Used To Be
Aug. 15th, 2023 08:56 pmBreyer's ice cream was on a buy one, get one free sale at Mariano's the other day. Lately, I've mostly bought Edy's when it was on sale, but I used to like Breyer's and I figured the kids would be happy to see ice cream (yes, Dad makes excuses to buy ice cream), so I grabbed a carton of the Natural Vanilla and a carton of Chocolate. I have always liked the Natural Vanilla, because it had little bits of vanilla bean in it and a stronger vanilla flavor than a lot of other vanilla ice creams.
If you look closely, you can still spy the little bits of vanilla bean, but the vanilla flavor is much less strong than it used to be, which is a shame. And this is not just a case of aging taste buds, because I can easily detect the vanilla in Andy's vanilla custard. This is just not as vanilla as it used to be. Which is a shame.
On the other hand, the chocolate is still ok. Not as good as Edy's, but there's still enough cocoa to make me happy.
