I drove down to the baseball game with a friend of mine who decided that it was best to grab a ride with me to the remote parking lot since Lollapalooza is on this weekend and transit options were going to be complex at best and expensive at worst. And we saw a great baseball game that the Cubs managed to win 8-6.
Unfortunately, I failed at communicating my post-game plan. See, when I'm heading back to the remote parking buses, I always go out the left-field gate. There is a conveniently located and usually uncrowded men's room there, which is a really good place to stop off after nine innings of baseball.
And then I zigged in the crowd, leaving my compatriot behind as he zagged.
This would have been *much* less complex if either of us had the other's cellphone number in our contacts. We didn't.
I sent several emails to no avail and dropped a message to Gretchen to watch for a phone call and pass my cellphone number along and *please* to not assume that it was spam. I waited for a while by the flagpole next to the fire station and eventually decided it was time to give up and head for the buses.
The buses were running slowly, so I ended up in a line waiting for several of them to return. And eventually, my phone rang. It was a mutual friend of ours who was lately on vacation in Canada asking if I wanted my misplaced friend's phone number. I said yes, she texted it to me, and a minute later, I was back on the phone to my friend, who was at Clark and Irving Park, which is where the line is *not*. I told him to walk back east until he found me, which worked.
And then we could go home.
The expressways were jammed, so I bailed on Kostner immediately after trying to get on and managed to work my way north to Elston, which was a *fine* alternate route.
I have now stored my friend's number in my cellphone...
