It was back down to Wrigley Field for the Cubs vs. Red Sox. It was not a good game for the Cubs. Steele got tagged for six earned runs (five of which were earned due to a questionable call by the official scorer to avoid giving Hoerner his second error of the game at shortstop) and the subsequent pitchers were no better, although catcher Tucker Barnhart threw a good ninth inning, giving up no runs and only one hit while hitting 42 mph on the radar gun.

The Cubs, who went most of the game resting on the leadoff single by Tauchman in the bottom of the first, finally mustered some offense when the Red Sox -- with an 11-0 lead -- brought in a reliever who had just come up from AAA. Happily, the Cubs could hit (or mostly take walks) off of a AAA pitcher and they scored five runs in the last two innings for an 11-5 final score that looked much closer than the game actually was.

But the weather was good and so was the conversation, along with quietly heckling the pretty miserable performance on the field today.

The Cubs are eight games out now (which only looks good in comparison to the Cards, who are 11.5 games out) and it's time to think about whether selling at the deadline is the right move, since the Brewers just swept the Reds. Selling looks like a good choice, assuming there are buyers to match up with. We'll see how it goes.
