We had one of the solar panel install folks out today to take a look at the place. Unfortunately, the good exposure by our house is broken up by the major dormer for our bedroom on the southwest side of the house, which means that we are far less of a good place to put solar panels than I had hoped. On a lease basis, the expected savings would only be around $50 / month (without a backup battery), which seems too low to justify the project right now. Ah, well.

In other news, K has a part as a news reporter in the spring play, where pretty much everything about it has been a big secret at the director's behest. I have managed to ascertain the rough timeframe, though, and that the director thinks that K's delivery is too fast. I have now shown her a clip of Walter Winchell as an example of "too fast" and Edward R. Murrow reporting from London during the blitz as probably being exactly what the director is looking for. K thinks the latter will help. :)

We'll see how it goes.

Real Estate people are always saying "location, location, location" and it's true for solar as well. My roof faces about 175 degrees and is just about perfect. In the 10 years I've had them I've kept a spreadsheet of income/costs and interest lost and earned etc. I only have a 3kW system because it's a small house but if you treat it as a long term savings bond I'm seeing a ROI of about 10% which makes me smile.
