One Baseball Game, With Tornado Warning
Jun. 13th, 2022 11:55 pmI went down to Wrigley with Leah for the Cubs / Padres game this evening. We had just gotten there and gotten seated when the sirens went off. I have never heard the sirens go off at Wrigley before. Apparently, there was concern about a possible tornado, so they evacuated everyone to the concourse. It was hot, humid, and there was no air movement. I managed to catch a spot on the back side of a condiment station, so at least we had a place to set things down and to lean on, but by the time we were finally cleared to go back upstairs, I was a sodden mess, because my primary cooling system is sweat and when there is no hope of evaporation...
The game finally started at 8:30 PM and was quite a good one, with both starters giving up only one run through seven innings of work. When the Cubs starter, Steele, departed, Rowan Wick entered and it was clearly not his night. Three runs later, Rowan Wick left, but that turned out to be quite enough runs for the Padres, although they did manage to get the tying run to the plate against Yu Darvish, the Padres starter, in the bottom of the eighth. But he got out of the jam, and the game was turned over to the Padres closer in the ninth, and 4-1 is where it stayed.
I am now home, very tired, and ready to take a shower. :)
