Assembly Interrupted
Jan. 27th, 2022 09:11 pmOops.
The CPU cooler arrived today, so after dinner, I went to work assembling the new studio computer. Print appears to have gotten smaller since the last time I did this, so I ended up borrowing Gretchen's reading glasses just to make sure that I was reading things correctly. After a bit of futzing around, I managed to get the mounting bracket for the cooler correctly installed -- I think. We'll see what happens when I actually attach the cooler to the bracket.
The CPU is installed. The RAM is installed. The motherboard is almost ready to go into the case, but first, I figured I'd install the SSD drives.
Oops.
Somehow, I had gotten the idea that there were *two* SSD heatsinks that had shipped with the motherboard. This is incorrect. There is only *one* built-in heatsink.
So I have now ordered a third, identical SSD drive, save for the fact that this one includes a heatsink. It is supposed to arrive on Saturday. The second SSD drive is queued for a return to Amazon at the Kohl's down the street.
All's well then, except that I won't actually be able to fire up the computer until that third (but soon to be second) SSD drive with the heatsink arrives and is installed. But I'll go ahead and finish up the rest of the assembly, because if anything else is mismatched, I'd like to find out sooner rather than later.
