I found out last week that my company is giving us President's Day off this year and since [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise works for a bank, she also has the day off. Unfortunately, the cleaning woman arrived on schedule at 8:00 AM, so a relaxing morning of sleeping in was not in the cards, especially for Gretchen who actually opens the door when the cleaning woman arrives.

However, I've managed to get my hair cut, pick up soda and bagels at the Jewel, have lunch with Gretchen, get the oil changed in my car, pick up a brisket at Sam's Club (because it was $2.79 per pound there instead of the $4.99 that the Jewel wanted) along with some cleaning supplies and paczki, read the newspaper, remove the second stereo cabinet in the bedroom that contains the cassette decks that we haven't used in some time, move clothes from the closet in the library to the closet in the spare bedroom to make room to hide the second stereo cabinet, vacuum up the incredible supply of dust bunnies that were behind the two stereo cabinets and the TV in the bedroom, and slide everything down the wall so the mirror and lamp actually look like they were meant to be there.

Gretchen was -- I hope, despite the vacuuming! -- taking a nap downstairs during the bedroom rearrangement. We'll see how she likes it.

I may not have gotten as much done today as I might have hoped, but I haven't mastered that superluminal speed trick yet. Maybe later.

FWIW, time needed for work around the home increases exponentially with increasing age. So you see, we'll NEVER catch up. Or get it all done. Especially since the rate of dust bunny reproduction also increases exponentially.

Holy smokes! You were way more productive than I was on my day off :) But then you didn't have a 2 foot tall person with an ear ache rolling around on your floor.

You got a lot done today. Don't knock it!

Btw, what's "paczki?"

It's a Polish oversized jelly donut, made to celebrate (and eat!) the day before Ash Wednesday. They got 'em at Kroger too. I've got to write an LJ entry about this.

Oh.

I've heard the word pronounced and remembered it didn't look anything like it sounds (punch-kee), but somehow I didn't put the two together.

Some half-Slovak I am.

You've been living in California too long. Time to re-assimilate. :)

And here's that LJ entry for paczki that I promised.

Strangely enough, I wondered the same thing when I read this earlier today, but didn't bother to ask, and when I stopped at the grocery store on the way home, they were selling them.

I'm tired just *reading* about all of that. I'm still working on my grading key (although I saw a movie in the middle of it, so that slowed things down somewhat). But at least I have my lectures for tomorrow written and the reading for Thursday (although not the lecture) done.

I really need to tackle the pile of papers, though; I feel bad that I haven't started on them, but unfortunately they just weren't as high-priority as other things. Ah, well.

Your name came up in conversation with a friend from the Chicago area who is currently visiting us and she said, "I know that name! Ask him about Moebius Theater!"

Ah.

My friend is involved in Moebius now, and knows of you from there. I saw one of their shows when I was in Chicago in 2003 and sat in on rehersals.

SpaceTime sounds fun

I don't doubt they are. Even having already seen the Moebius stuff in rehersal, seeing it performed with the audience added an extra sparkle to the show.

yeah, performing it with an audience added that sparkle, too.
