How Did *That* Happen?

Looking at the baseball standings for the NL Central, I am rather surprised to find that the Cardinals are in second place, only a game behind the Cubs -- two in the loss column. In fact, the Cubs, Cards, and the Brewers (who are in third, two games back) all have the same number of wins. This is to the Cubs advantage, since they could win the games that they have in hand, but the Cardinals are still much more in the race than I thought they would be at this point.

I guess we'll see what happens.

I hope you don't mind if I mention something that is off-topic but at least about baseball.

Kudos to the Chicago Cubs for giving Steve Bartman a World Series ring. It was a classy move.

The last time I attended a Cubs game at Wrigley Field -- and you know what game that was -- I asked someone to point out Steve Bartman's seat to me. I sat in it, and I have a photo somewhere to prove it. We all sit in Steve Bartman's seat at times; we all make mistakes we regret. But for most of us, our mistakes don't lead to newspaper headlines around the world and a YouTube video with 1.7 million views.

I feel for Steve Bartman, and I admire him both for not crawling under a rock and hiding for the rest of his life, and for not exploiting his notoriety for material gain.
