TiVo requires a phone line and can force updates to their software that may remove functionality down the phone line whether you like it or not. If TiVo goes belly up, it's not clear that they'll send a last update to free your machine from them, so you could have an expensive paperweight. And it's not clear that TiVo is going to survive.

The only thing this machine doesn't do that I might like to have is to record in HD. And since I don't yet have an HD signal coming into the house -- I need to install that attic antenna -- this is less of a problem than you might think. :)
