Truth -- except that FB like is eminently superior to the ancient RAEBNC (or even RAE).
The reason is basically load and value. When someone does a lot of RAEBNCs, reading their zine becomes a chore; all noise (almost) and no content except for the people receiving the RAEs. Even for those who are, getting a "RAEBNC" in the middle of a bunch of other similar messages rather dilutes the positivity, and it can sometimes be a chore to track back exactly what they were liking if they get cryptic (never!). And there's a letdown of finding your name while ego-scanning only to see just a RAEBNC. I've been known to take someone to task (gently) for filling their short zine with so many RAEBNCs that it was hard to determine whether, or if, there was any actual content--and I've basically entirely scaled back my use of the form in favor of either finding something to comment on, or treating no comment as no comment.
On the other hand, "likes" are folded together, and generally not visible unless you're viewing the liked content. So unlike RAEBNCs, they are all signal, no noise; providing positivity without baggage. While a zine that's all RAEBNCs is a chore to read and will generally just get skipped over even by those mentioned, a Facebook page that just provides "likes" will add a bit of positivity to people's day with no real downside. [of course, a Facebook page that apparently likes -everything- will justly get viewed as spammy and maybe creepy, but that's a bit different].
