I got up this morning and blew six-plus inches of snow out of the driveway. You wouldn't know it now. The snow totals at O'Hare are 16 inches so far. I believe this, because Julie lost her boot in a drift in the backyard. In the dark. On a hill. With no exact position to be had, because Julie couldn't go out without a boot and Katie had defected to the neighbors whose phone must be an Internet phone, as it is going straight to voice mail. (Yes, I'm posting now. I just came downstairs and rebooted the modem and am happy to see it's working after a several hour outage.)

In the meantime, school has been canceled for tomorrow, so at least I won't have to get up early to clear the driveway tomorrow morning.

And with the Internet back, I'll actually be able to do some work.

I went out with a yardstick to see how deep it was out of pure curiosity. First answer: deeper than my boots. Second answer, because I'm stubborn that way, 14 inches. Joe went out and shoveled about 3:00 p.m.. You'd never know it now.

Any chance that tripled socks under doubled plastic bags will substitute for the missing boot long enough to get Julie outside to find it?

Possibly, but since I already recovered the boot this time, we'll save that tactic for later. :)

David cleaned my car off yesterday afternoon, which you wouldn't have guessed judging by the 10" snow hat on the top and hood. Unlike *many* of my fellow drivers, I tried to knock as much of that snow hat off before I started on my way to work. There were many SUVs that were mobile blizzard machines. One lame idiot had obviously just used his windshield wipers to clear two small patches so he could see.
