Tim finally did me the math. Apparently we're at $7.69. And inside sources tell me that there are noises about fuel blockades in protest - most of that figure is government tax...

Yeah, I've noticed that gasoline taxes in other countries are much higher than in the U.S. On the other hand, most of those other countries (except, say, Canada) are a good bit more geographically compact than we are. In fact, you could even argue that Canada is fairly compact geographically based on population distribution, but...

I wish I could remember who said, "In America 100 years is a long time, in England 100 miles is a long distance..."

But I do wonder how our Govt. justify our gas taxes when you consider that the gas tax is *meant* to pay for road upkeep. There's way more roads in the US!!! And they're wider!!! And subject to far more extremes of temperatures!!!
