The Speedway and the Jewel are down to $2.95 / gallon, about 20 cents more than before Katrina hit. The Citgo is still at $2.99, but he's usually the highest on the street along with the Shell.
True, the trains are jolly useful things :-) I just wish good Old Dr. Beeching hadn't shut all the rural ones down in the 50's! But we shall certainly be using our railcard for long distance visits to friends where at all possible - the money is just getting *silly*.
You know, Sam, it's very easy to create a free LJ account; as often as I see your comments, I think it would save you trouble. Nobody demands that you keep a journal of your own.
Had to drive to Buffalo, NY for a few days. I filled up in Michigan at $2.93. I had dinner with the lovely Hall's in Rochester and put a splash in my car, in Buffalo, at $3.64. And when zooming across Canada to get here, I saw CN$1.40/liter.
At the beginning of the week every station I saw in the Champaign area was $2.999. Wednesday night, Meijer was down to $2.959. Friday night, several stations were $2.919 and I got gas at the Freedom on Prospect for $2.909.
A week ago Monday at the peak, most stations were at $3.159. $2.909 is still, IIRC, higher than I'd ever actually paid for gas in the US before Katrina, and definitely higher than any station in this area had ever charged.
Meanwhile here in Rockville, MD we seem to be stuck around $3.29, and some stations in Silver Spring seem to be $3.19. Overall, I believe we're currently third for most expensive gas behind NY and DC.
Oddly enough, our governor (and my namesake...) for once is actually doing something useful and is calling the gas companies on the carpet to explain themselves.

*wince*
We aren't planning on travelling anywhere we can avoid at the moment. And when we do, we shall be taking my micro-car...
