I'd hoped to get down into the studio today, but instead I spent the day paying the bills, dealing with some Windycon and ISFiC press business and trying (unsuccessfully so far) to fix Katie's bicycle and remove the training wheels. Unfortunately, one of the nuts is rusted onto the bolt, so I've applied some WD-40 and will try again tomorrow.

And tomorrow, I will head down into the studio. :)

Good luck in the studio. Which album are you going to be working on?

WD-40 is a good all-purpose oil (with Lubricant, Protectant and Penetrating functions) and a good place to start (especially since that's what you had on hand). Hopefully the WD-40 and Time To Soak Overnight will get the job done.

If not - overall, I've found that a dedicated Penetrating Oil is worth keeping on hand for problems that involve existing rust (like your situation). For myself, I find Liquid Wrench to be significantly better than WD-40 (or other multipurpose oils like 3-In-1) in these situations. Granted, I use a lot MORE of the multi-purpose oils overall than I do straight Penetrating Oil, so one little can lasts me many years - but when I really need the Liquid Wrench, I'm always glad to have some on hand. It has an odor, but that's usually in the "small price to pay" category.
