Katie wanted to record some audio for school. Normally, I'd use the studio and multi-track the project there, but I despaired of getting Katie to sing in synchronization with tracks she was listening to through the headphones. And then I realized that this was a perfect application for the field recording gear -- the gear that I need to get sorted out before Capricon, because it thwarted Dave completely at Windycon.

The first thing I found was that the laptop battery said "0%, plugged in, not charging". Ok, that's bad. Entertainment followed as I kept trying various incantations that I found on the Internet to fix the problem. I finally upgraded the laptop BIOS and reinstalled the battery. That got the battery to charge, although it's unclear if the problem has actually been solved or just punted down the road.

Cubase is not seeing all of the ports that the mixer is presenting. In a fit of updating, I'm pulling all of the new drivers for the mixer and loading them up.

We'll see if that helps.

*sigh*

That would be me. I don't know how much good they will do, though - some of the tracks are OK, but some have a lot of pops, clicks, and distortion. And there is a ghu-awful hum on one of the tracks that I haven't tracked down yet that comes and goes. I'll burn them all to a disk for you, but all in all it's not one of the better recordings I've ever been involved with. (In fact, it's pretty darn bad, when you come right down to it, and there is probably nothing worth salvaging on it. Sorry about that.)

Urgh. I knew there were issues at the beginning, but I was hoping the end of the Wild Mercy set (Re: Your Brains, in particular) might be useable. I got a good chunk of it in video, 'til my phone ran out of space. Apparently I'm doomed to not ever get a good postable recording of our version of that song. This is try three w/ no joy. :-/

I'll definitely take the disk... it'll give me something to play with in Logic, at least. (Assuming Logic will work with the files... what format are they?)

All the tracks are saved as .wav files.

That'll work. Anything at least semi-standard will work. It's just the proprietary formats that cause issues. :-)
