Dietary Confusion

Gretchen and I decided to grab lunch at Guzman y Gomez, which is a new fast-food Mexican place out in Schaumburg that is part of a chain. Unlike a lot of places that list allergy information, their website lists sulfites as an allergen and they are only (other than in trace amounts) present in their chipotle fry seasoning, while their fries are listed as sulfite-free.

When I got there though, I didn't read the menu carefully enough to figure out that the fries were going to come with the chipotle fry seasoning whether you wanted it or not. I ate a few of the fries, realized that I was now playing Russian roulette with my sulfite load, and discarded the rest of them. I don't seem to have exceeded my carrying capacity for sulfites (happily!), but I will not be getting the fries there again unless they can assure me that they'll give me some that haven't been seasoned.

In other menu news, the burritos were quite good. The nachos, however, should be given a miss based on our experience, as the tortilla chips were semi-soggy and tough, probably due to having spent time in a microwave having the cheese melted on them.

The place was being really popular and it was good that we got there early, because parking was at a premium.
