A while back, I took my old office computer, went back to the bare metal, and installed 64-bit Windows 10 Pro in the hope that the 64-bit version would be a bit more stable than the 32-bit version had been. I then proudly presented this to K so that she could have a computer in her room.

Today, I was informed that the machine was behaving so badly that it was nigh unto useless and had been so for some time. I offered to try to fix the beast and was met with scoffing.

So then I thought it over. The computer was, at this point, 16 years old, which would be slightly older than K. In computer years, it was pretty much deceased.

Hey, it's Amazon Prime Day! I can look for a new computer there.

Ick. That's a bunch of ugly boxes and unhappy prices.

How about MicroCenter?

Oh, look. There's a business class machine that's one of their builds with the same CPU as the studio computer, the same motherboard as the studio computer, half as much RAM (which should be fine), an NVME drive, and Windows 10 Pro. And a price that doesn't make me scream in terror. No video card, but K isn't playing any high-frame-rate games anyway, so Intel Integrated Graphics will be fine.

The new computer is on order.

And the old computer will be decommissioned.

Sixteen years is pretty good.
