Worn Out

I was in the middle of a Zoom conference with my boss, when the Internet suddenly went out. I texted him to let him know what was going on, then headed off to the basement to reboot the modem. The old modem did not seem to require this nearly as often as the new modem; this distresses me a bit.

Anyway, I rebooted the modem and it came back up with a green light instead of a red one. Good start.

But the wired computer in the basement still wouldn't connect to the Internet. Ok, let's unplug the switch and plug it back in. Now the wired computer and the basement WAP are on line.

Back to the office, two stories away. Nothing up there can connect via the wired connection. Ok, unplug that switch and plug it back in. Still no joy. I can connect to the basement WAP, but not with the wired connection.

Back to the basement. Apparently, the network cable that connects to the upstairs has become a bit worn and no longer locks in properly. Plug it back in. Use my phone to connect to the WAP in the office, because I really don't feel like climbing two flights of stairs to see if it is working this time.

The phone connects!

I guess it's time to replace that cable.
