Independence Day
Jul. 3rd, 2020 10:44 pmTomorrow is the Fourth of July, Independence Day here in the U.S., and things will be different because of the pandemic.
Yes, we're already hearing the booms of fireworks in our neighborhood and have been for days, which are not of the list of Ruby the Dog's favorite things. And tomorrow, we can still put out the flag.
But I will miss the costumed children coming around tomorrow dressed as the Founding Fathers (and Mothers!), coming to our door and shouting "One if by land!" and our opening the door and responding "Two if by sea!" and then holding out the bowl of fireworks for them to grab a handful to light off -- under their parents' supervision! -- later that evening.
The pandemic will pass. These things do. And there will be another year.
