Bacon: Is There Anything It Can't Do?
Aug. 30th, 2016 10:06 pmI'm not sure, but I have added a new thing to the list of things that bacon can do today.
It can break my tooth.
I took Gretchen out to lunch today at TGI:Fridays and ordered a bacon cheeseburger. One of the strips of bacon was thick enough and hard enough that when I bit down on the sandwich, it managed to twist its way into my right upper front bicuspid and split the tooth in two, right down to the root.
I didn't know that immediately. What I knew at the time was that it hurt like hell.
When it was still hurting and there appeared to be something jammed in the middle of the tooth after lunch, I tried to dislodge it with a toothpick, but no luck. Nor did flossing help. So I called the dentist and they were able to get me in.
One X-ray and two pokings at the tooth later, it was determined that this was an ex-tooth. And we determined that the best thing to do was pull it and start the process of getting an implant.
Sadly, this was going to require a bone graft from a consulting dentist who does not actually spend all her time in this office. But she was finally located and will be there at 2 PM tomorrow to do her part of the job.
With luck, things will hold together well enough until then.
