My office chair has been getting a little cranky lately. Given the amount of time that I've spent in it, that may not be a surprise.

I told [livejournal.com profile] daisy_knotwise that I wanted to replace it, so on Saturday, we headed over to Staples to look at some chairs I'd seen online, because buying a chair without sitting in it is a recipe for discomfort.

I found the most likely chair and tried it out. It was ok, but not wonderful.

And then I saw the other chair. I sat in it and its two sibling models and decided that this one was going home with me.

Except that it wasn't in stock and had to be ordered from the warehouse, so it arrived here on Tuesday. Katie and Julie, seeing the big box, were going to give me no peace until it was assembled, so assembled it was and then hauled upstairs.

So I am now the proud owner of a Tempur-Pedic TP9000 chair that is apparently a Staples exclusive. My old desk chair has migrated to bedroom for Gretchen to use when on the computer there.

And I am, so far, quite comfortable. :)

Interesting. :) I was in the same situation last year. Being an American, and being that there actually *is* Staples over here, I shopped there first. And second. And third... And if Staples here had had this chair, I could likely have come home with it as well.

Instead, I bought a Vilgot from Ikea (which, as I see, is in the US as well)... which looks amazingly similar

Yeah, but I was totally willing to spend the 300- I spend a LOT of time in this chair!

And is, oddly enough, the chair I'm sitting in right now. :) It's probably not as durable as the TempurPedic one that Roper bought, though.

I got it because the kids and I share a computer, and SR is 5'4" and DB is 5'9", so the chair has to have quite a range of heights. And I like to sit in the chair sideways, so optional armrests is a feature.

I once gave an old office chair to my cats. They made good use of it.

A bit different from me getting my current home office chair. I remember I got it from the Costco in Carmel Mountain Ranch San Diego - when I first lived here in 1998 and 1999. It is a high-back chair, and it was during the cooler part of the year. So I ended driving the few blocks home with the chair in its box in the back of my jeep - with the top down since the box was too big to fit otherwise.

That chair has somehow survived 5 moves, including two cross-country, and the only problem is that the base fall off if it isn't lifted carefully. Well worth whatever I paid for it.

And, of course, the cat thinks it should be his chair much of the time.

I bought a couple of different office chairs that were on sale at Office Max, both of which turned out to be no good in the long run. Then I went past a garage sale one day, and saw an office chair. So I stopped in, and it was very comfy. The woman told me it was a Steelcase chair. Cool. So I paid 30 bucks for it and took it home.

I did some research (the chair had a paper for instructions) and found out that, brand new, it's a very, very expensive chair. I can't remember now, but I think it was over 1000 bucks. So I got my best office chair from the garage sale.
