Thanksgiving Eve
Nov. 23rd, 2011 11:55 pmI wrapped up work (such as it was -- it'll be back to the same thing on Monday) a bit later than I'd intended and headed downstairs to join our dinner guests,
jeff_duntemann, Carol, and
whl. I had originally planned to make a chocolate pie for dessert, but I could see that plan was dead, so I headed off to the Jewel to pick up something for dessert.
The Jewel was mobbed. It seemed that everyone in the world was there trying to buy something tonight.
This included
tarkrai and
katyhh who had just arrived in town and were picking up supplies before heading off to bed to try to get their clocks reset. We were all greatly amused by this. We'll see them again tomorrow on Thanksgiving.
Dinner was good, consisting of ribeye roast, baked potatoes (with butter, sour cream, bacon, and cheese), broccoli with cheese sauce, and Hawaiian rolls. It was not perhaps the healthiest meal in existence, but that's what holidays are for. :) The conversation was good too, as we sat around the table talking, Aunt Carol played with Katie and Julie, and we eventually served the Dutch apple pie and vanilla ice cream that I'd picked up at the Jewel.
After everyone left, I decided that our best hope of surviving the next day was to bake the pies that we needed tomorrow tonight. So
daisy_knotwise started making pie crust and I started mixing up pie filling, both of us with the close attention of Katie and Julie who wanted to help, but eventually settled for scraping the bowl of pumpkin pie filling.
Two pumpkin pies and one pecan pie have now left the oven and are cooling.
And we're going to bed. :)
