Bits and Pieces
Jul. 29th, 2011 11:51 pmWell, it's now officially the wettest July in recorded history in the area. Some of the other houses on our street took water in the basement, from the look of what's piled outside for pickup. We were lucky.
Katie came down with the tummy bug that earlier afflicted Julie and
daisy_knotwise. She's feeling much better now. Our bed, however...
I upgraded the firmware on my aged Linksys router earlier this week to see if this would solve my connectivity drop out problem that I really think is Comcast's fault. The firmware upgrade didn't fix it. I've been intending to buy a new router, but the one I've been waiting for stubbornly refuses to ship. The latest estimate is October and I am tired of waiting, so I ordered this well-reviewed Cisco/Linksys E4200 at an excellent price today. We'll see what it does when it shows up. At the very least, it should improve things by being a lot faster than the old router.
I continue to enjoy the Toshiba Thrive. One of the most useful applications are the radar weather maps for the entire country that I get from the WGN Weather app. Especially when you're tracking the thunderstorms and severe weather alerts we've been having lately...
I also succumbed and downloaded Angry Birds. Gretchen has threatened to divorce me. :)
The Dyson vacuum cleaner, as predicted by
smallship1 has resumed working once it cooled off after overheating due to the clog. This was greatly reassuring. Someday, I will finish vacuuming the basement.
Possibly, that will be tomorrow, as I'm also hoping to install the replacement belt for the eight track reel-to-reel deck so that I can transfer the master for The Grim Roper. We'll see how that goes...
