As part of my effort to get the Dodeka taxes done, I'm going through bunches and bunches of paper on the desk and trying to find the pieces of paper that I need, file the pieces of paper that I need to keep, and discard the pieces of paper that I no longer need. At some point during this process, I paused before the mail shelf downstairs, sat down, grabbed the recycling bin, and started discarding a lifetime supply of statements from closed retirement accounts, medical insurance, and the like.

When I was done, the baskets were empty and the wood on the shelf was visible for the first time in years. So I dusted it.

I also threw out the remaining carpet scraps from the basement carpeting project, which means I've got access to the cabinets down there again.

No taxes have actually been done in the pursuit of all this, but I have located many of the things that I'll need to do them.
