daisy_knotwise and I will shortly be off to Wrigley Field to hear Jimmy Buffett in concert. We expect that he'll play better than the Cubs have this season.Sep. 5th, 2005

Sep. 5th, 2005 10:09 amBush has nominated John Roberts to succeed William Rehnquist as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. I had commented to daisy_knotwise yesterday that shifting Roberts' nomination to Rehnquist's seat would make sense, since O'Connor has promised to stay on the bench until a successor is confirmed and it would be the best thing for the Court and the country.
I hadn't expected him to actually nominate Roberts for Chief Justice, but -- thinking about it -- he's probably the best choice that Bush had available to him, given that the sitting options on the court were Scalia and Thomas. There's some reasonable chance that Roberts is a consensus builder, which is more than can be said for the other two.

Sep. 5th, 2005 10:49 pmToday's Jimmy Buffett concert at Wrigley Field was a fine time in a fine venue. I was amused when Buffett noted that the folks at Wrigley managed to spell his name correctly, which was more than the CTA or Tickets.com had done. (Buffet is dinner. Buffett is a performer.)
Many of my favorite Jimmy Buffett songs weren't well suited for this sort of party atmosphere or were older, so I wasn't overly surprised not to hear them. It didn't stop me from having a good time.
We met up withpheltzer and drawshad after the game and had dinner at Gulliver's.
After the events of the week, it was a good day to spend with 30,000+ people who were in a good mood.

Sep. 5th, 2005 10:54 pmI installed a pair of 100W equivalent fluorescent bulbs in the ceiling fans in the family room and in the office. That's much better. I can actually read the newspaper again without resorting to reading glasses.
