All Right-Thinking People
Apr. 24th, 2012 06:27 pmAs we all know, all right-thinking people agree with me on all topics, no matter how debatable or nuanced they may seem to others. In fact, people who believe that these topics are debatable or nuanced are obviously not right-thinking people.
Because all right-thinking people agree with me on all topics, it is important for me to insinuate subtle -- or even not so subtle -- references to issues that I care strongly about into any conversation. Right-thinking people will regard these asides as clever and amusing, because they are -- of course! -- right-thinking people and agree with me on all issues.
Should anyone respond to my clever and amusing asides in a negative fashion, they are being impolite, because all right-thinking people agree with me that my clever and amusing asides are important contributions to the conversation. People who are made uncomfortable by these asides are obviously not right-thinking people and should seriously rethink their obviously incorrect position, no matter how subtle and nuanced they may believe the topic to be.
It is, of course, always polite for me to include my clever and amusing asides in any conversation, because all of the right-thinking people agree with me and find them clever and amusing, while those who don't find them clever and amusing should never be offended, but should take this opportunity to seriously rethink their obviously incorrect position. In fact, it is my solemn duty to include these asides, because the sooner these not-right-thinking people get their heads on straight (which my asides will certainly encourage them to do), the better off we will all be.
Oh, dear. Did I forget to turn the sarcasm filter on? I knew I was forgetting something...
Edit: The person who prompted this post does not have a LiveJournal account. I'm not annoyed with any of you...

Date: 2012-04-24 11:54 pm (UTC)It wouldn't be so bad, except I saw some friends of mine who got caught in a similar position this weekend and who were being very, very polite until I steered the conversation into a safer direction.

Date: 2012-04-25 01:10 am (UTC)I may disagree with you from time to time (and when I put it in print, I try to do so politely), but I can hardly object to your saying what you want to say in your own space. If I don't want to read it, I don't have to.

Date: 2012-04-25 04:21 am (UTC)It was the later, private e-mail that explained to me the error of my ways that received a flaming missile of death in return. :) And prompted this post...

Date: 2012-04-25 09:51 pm (UTC)I actually expect that people will have opinions. It was the "How could you possibly read that into what I wrote (despite the fact that I have made my opinions on this issue clear) and, by the way, let me explain to you why you are an idiot" e-mail that really set me off.
Heck, it wasn't even that there weren't individual points in the e-mail that I might agree with...

Date: 2012-04-25 11:38 am (UTC)I've spent months in the past unsubscribed because of one person or another, but when I resubscribed last time I actually turned off all my filters, and consider the source before letting my blood pressure be affected.

"Sometimes wrong. Frequently uncertain. Up for debating a lot of things."
