The good news is that, with a good bit of help from one of my co-workers, we finally were able to figure out what was causing a particularly annoying GPF. I've now exterminated all the possible cases of this, so things should be better now.
As of this moment, I have no bugs left for the current release, so I can go back to the death march service fix tomorrow... :)
