The Cubs spent most of the day stinking up the place and were trailing 2-0 with the bases empty and two outs in the night. One Burnitz bloop single and a Ramirez line-drive homer to left later, the game was tied 2-2. In the top of the 11th, Todd Walker threw away a double-play grounder and the Nationals soon took a 4-2 lead. But in the bottom of the 11th, a Hairston leadoff homer and a broken bat RBI double by Hollandsworth produced another tie. And when Schroeder hit a homer in the top of the 12th, the Cubs had run out of comebacks.

Sam's leg had been bothering him, so he went home and we met Jerry for stuffed pizza at Eduardo's. Unfortunately, the extra innings had made us much later than we'd anticipated, so we junked the plans to see Hitchhikers and caught an 8:00 PM show of Bewitched at Old Orchard.

The critics didn't care much for Bewitched, but it turns out to be a fun, quirky little film with casting that's -- with the possible exception of Will Farrell -- is very nearly ideal. Kidman plays a fine substitute Samantha while Michael Caine and Shirley MacLaine were born to play "Samantha's" father and Endora.

I wouldn't have minded paying second-run prices to see it, but full price wasn't so bad.

I enjoyed Bewitched too (we saw it last weekend). It was exactly what I expected, a charming piece of fluff created by people who were obvious lovers of the original show. But I'm not a Will Farrell fan and this movie didn't change my opinion at all of him (although the scene with the dog when he asks about it in 5 different ways is pretty funny!)
