The Eve of Distraction

daisy_knotwise wanted to watch the finale of Dancing With the Stars and managed to do so, despite little girls all odds. Of course, the DVR helped as she could pause it during interruptions and catch up during commercials, with the result that she managed to finish the show only ten minutes after it actually concluded in real time.

One of us needed to go to the grocery store to get supplies for Thanksgiving and Thanksgiving Eve when we're having friends and relatives over. Gretchen volunteered to go, but only if one of the girls stayed home. Katie immediately announced that she would go with, much to Julie's dismay.

After several minutes of dismay, I announced that Julie would get a special surprise if she stayed home with Daddy. Julie immediately perked up.

Katie immediately volunteered to stay home too.

So Gretchen headed off for the Jewel, unencumbered by little girls.

The surprise? Daddy gave his two little girls a nice long warm bath.

And managed to read about fifty pages of the current novel while doing so. :)

Yes, I've noticed that too: it is relatively easy to get two little girls to both do the *same* thing (as long as one is flexible about what that thing will end up being), but verging on impossible to get them each to do a *different* thing without a lot of tears.

So, was the bath an adequate special surprise, or will you need to come up with something better next time?
