Five years ago today, everything in our lives changed in a very good way.

Katie has been vibrating for the past week waiting for her birthday. Unfortunately, Julie the snitch has told her most of what she's getting in the way of presents.

At least there will be one surprise.

And there will be pictures later. :)

No, she won't start kindergarten 'till next fall. The cutoff here is September 1 and she's a November baby.

That is really late by UK standards. Here they start primary school as "rising fives" which means they start in the term/semester that they will rise to five.

Most kids have done a year of pretty much full time kindergarden before that.

Congrats on making the first full hand. I hope the party is splendid, & the cake delicious.

Here (Colorado) the cut-off is Nov. 1. In California it was Dec. 1. Each state has it's own rules & some of them are very contradictory.

Knew a family with twins born at the midnight straddling the cut-off date. They could have sent one kid to school, but not the other - so they decided to keep 'em both at home until the next September.

The UK is earlier than most countries, I believe. For example, in Germany, generally the cut-off is August, but also here, kids only start school at six, so - even later.

Interesting, I'm not sure how much actual knowledge they learn at that age but they do learn important social interaction skills.

I would think that's what kindergarden is for - which we have, in Germany. But it isn't really school at all (not comparable to "pre-school", it is mostly playtime, and interaction :)
