I was digging through my closet and rummaging through my collection of convention badges looking for Capricon badges. I found all but three: 13, 19, and 20. I wonder where they're at.

When looking for more badges, I also found a box of 25 cassette tapes. They're labeled Chicon IV, 1 through 25, recorded with Dolby B noise reduction.

Oh, my. It's not my handwriting on the labels -- I suspect it might be Bob Laurent's.

But, oh, my.

I've got a pile of Chicon IV tapes somewhere too.

I was a poor college student and they are cheap crappy tapes, so one of these days I'll the courage to play and digitize them.

I'll see your Chicon IV & raise you Chicon II & III. Unfortunately, ditto on the cheap crappy tapes, so I doubt anything's salvageable by now.

Can I get them to convert them? Please :)

And as a historical note... OCP released Chicon IV as a tape, Bob released Chicon V.

Any other IDing marks on those tapes? (Just wondering whom you just might have found recordings of that are no longer with us.)

The set of 25 tapes from Chicon IV was made privately. I don't remember giving Bill a set, but it is certainly possible. OCP recorded a total of 10 tapes, from which they made a one hour commercial tape.

Any idea if Bill Marachello was on those tapes? (Just looking for a song that someone asked for at one point that does not exist on his commercial tape.)

I believe so, but with just a couple of things. I don't recall what off hand.

What else is on those tapes besides the obvious concerts of the filkers who attended the convention.

Chicon IV was the last worldcon I went to before parenthood set in, and Sharon will be 26 this coming summer.

So that was long enough ago that I don't think there WERE scheduled filk concerts. I remember "Momma Don't 'Low" going on for about 45 minutes one evening, though.

They are surprisingly good. They were my car tapes for years. Bob gave me a set for my birthday in (let's see, Jordi was three) in 1992.
