Our new portable phone and answering system has been gradually dying, largely due to batteries that aren't worth a darn. I priced batteries on-line and didn't find any reasonably priced replacements (as I recall, something on the order of $20 per phone for each of the three extensions). This seemed pretty expensive.

Today, we went to an overstock clearance sale near where we live and I picked up a four-line DECT 6.0 system from Panasonic that uses a pair of AAA rechargeables in each phone. It cost $57.

That'll work. I hope.

I have been going to eBay lately for batteries. I picked up the replacement for our cordless phone for $8 shipped, and they were NiMH instead of NiCd, so they have about 3x the original lifetime.

However, at $57 for four lines, it's hard to argue. Our current phone is panasonic as well, and it works quite well.
