Independence Day

daisy_knotwise and I have decided to throw caution to the winds. We're taking the girls out to the Lisle Eyes to the Skies festival to watch balloon launches, listen to Kansas in concert, and then watch the fireworks. The plan is to meet up with folks there.

We'll see how this works.

Sigh. We were going to have fireworks here on the 2nd but it rained. It rained so hard that the ground was too soggy for parking on the 3rd. No fireworks. Sigh. So I'm rebuilding the shed roof. FYI, letting children play on the shed will cause leaks which will cause the decking to rot which will have you spending the 4th doing carpentry. It's been rebuilt and I've a good start on the shingling. And _now_ I have a forecast for three days of sun.

Dunno whether you guys already know this, and we're watching it on TCM so it's prolly too late to catch it there till next year, but their print of 1776 is in widescreen and has 35 minutes restored that Jack Warner took out because Dick Nixon didn't like those bits, including the song Cool, Considerate Men which I never heard before. If you've got it on DVD you may already know this, but if I were you and I didn't already know I'd want to be told.
