It's not really snowing yet. However, the forecast is for six to ten inches of snow to start arriving around noon. Thus, at 5 AM we got a robocall from the school letting us know that classes were canceled today.

I have to admit that I could have waited until a little bit later to find that out...

You might be able to opt out of the robocalls. My kids' district doesn't do them.

For a few years, before the wide spread of home internet, the HS student council used to do a phone service as a fundraiser (and they usually called around 6am), but now the district posts it on the website and on the transportation answerbot, as well as announcing it to most local TV and radio stations (many of which will send you a message if your selected school system is closed).
