Box It, Danno
Dec. 10th, 2012 11:28 pmThe problem with being a dealer is that you need something to carry your stock in. While we have a lot of 30 CD long boxes, you need a box to put them in that is vaguely like the right size. Those are hard to come by. Thus, we have been carrying our CDs to conventions in outer boxes that are becoming more like shells of duct tape than actual boxes. Most of them are more than 10 years old -- several of them still have the labels on them where they were shipped via UPS to and from Millenium Philcon.
Because it is nearly the end of the year and time to buy whatever it is that you think you really need, I went on-line to look for stock boxes. I didn't find any. However, I measured the boxes in the garage and I now have ordered 10 boxes that will hold 180 CDs in long boxes and another 10 boxes that will hold 120 CDs in long boxes. Doing this will allow me to continue to pack the van without tearing my hair out.
The 20 boxes cost me just over $100 and should supposedly be here in a few days.
If I have measured incorrectly, I will be very annoyed with myself...

Date: 2012-12-11 07:26 am (UTC)A few years ago I stumbled over very handy, stackable boxes originally intended for household items - wich nearly ideally fit 90 CDs (3 rows of 30), have moved all my moving stock into those boxes and conveniently put them in a shelf so I now can easily sort-and-pick through them whenever online orders come in, too.
With a hand truck / board on casters I now can move all my shop in 1 or 2 runs instead of ... many.
And that even was the original trigger event: in the first years I had tried to minimize transport runs by using plastic foldup-boxes to collect multiple small CD cartons in (all in different sizes, of course). Heading down the castle staircase one of those boxes broke and splattered its contents down the spiral staircase (down multiple floors). Following that I looked for solid boxes - and found the very conventient ones described above.

Date: 2012-12-11 12:23 pm (UTC)WHAT?!? It works great for us! So well that now we have two (then again, our stock is more bulky and less uniform in size). And they do kinda require a trailer.
More seriously, if the boxes you ordered don't work out, The Container Store has some grey plastic modular stacking bins in several sizes that we use inside our big yellow road cases that might also work for you; ping me if you want a pointer.
