As is my habit (all things being equal), I went down to Wrigley Field for the last home game of the Cubs season. Much to my surprise, I was in a position where I might have the chance to see the Cardinals clinch at least a tie for the second wild card slot, which I had not expected two weeks ago.

It was a good game which became completely bonkers in the ninth inning. I have never seen an umpiring crew manage to mess up the call of a play quite as much as they did in this case, but the Cardinals managed to get out of the inning despite this without giving up the tying runs, so they have extended their winning streak to sixteen consecutive games, which would explain why they have managed to clinch at least a tie for the second wild card slot. :)

The Cardinals magic number is 1 vs. both the Phillies and the Reds. I am impressed.
