The Exploding Sink Conundrum
Aug. 13th, 2011 11:01 pmThe sink is still thoroughly clogged and will be until we can engage a plumber at some less ruinous rate on Monday.
samwinolj and Bonnie came out for dinner with us at Sweet Tomatoes and I couldn't resist showing the problem to Sam. Sam was quite entertained as he watched a sink full of water vanish down the running garbage disposal only to return with explosive force when the disposal was switched off.
Some time later, he concluded that we must be pushing it back up the pipe leading to the one-way valve coming from the dishwasher, trapping the air within so that when the disposal is turned off, the air expands with entertaining results.
The clog, meanwhile, was unmoved by all of this.
