Minimum Requirements
Mar. 21st, 2006 01:47 pmMuch like
daisy_knotwise (but slightly earlier in the day), I headed over to our local polling place to vote against the incumbent Cook County Board President (and to vote for Siobhan Murphy for judge as long as I was there :) ). They asked if I wanted to use the touch-screen voting system and I said, "Sure!"
It was reasonably easy to use, did not tell anyone else that I'd deliberately undervoted by skipping at least one race where I had no opinion whatsoever, and generated a paper copy of my ballot which it displayed to me and sealed away on a spool in its innards. I can see where some people might have had a problem reading the paper copy of the ballot -- the lighting was less than perfect -- but other than that, this system seems to meet the minimum requirements for an electronic voting system.

Not Quite Spring
Mar. 21st, 2006 06:25 pmI came home last night and found that
daisy_knotwise was lamenting the notable lack of spring-like weather. (And if you think she was annoyed, you should have seen
fuzzbucket_cat trying to duck underneath the cold gale blowing in the back door!) However, I had a cunning plan.
We'd agreed to go out for dinner and I told her that I wanted to take her somewhere that would be a surprise. I drove to downtown Des Plaines. "Are we going to Leona's?" she asked.
"Nope." And I turned into the entrance to the new development downtown where I'd seen the sign for Cheeseburger in Paradise on my way home last week.
Ok, it may have been artificial spring. It may have lacked the ambiance of the original restaurant in Lahaina, Maui.
But it beat the heck out of the alternative. And there was live music on a Monday night.
And the onion strings were really good.
