And He's Outta Here

According to ESPN, Sammy Sosa (and a wad of cash) has been traded to the Baltimore Orioles for Jerry Hairston and two minor leaguers.

One of Todd Walker and Jerry Hairston is about to be pounding his head against the wall. I'm betting on Walker...

(There's one second baseman too many. And although Hairston can play the outfield, he really wants to go back to second base where he's probably better defensively than Walker. Stay tuned.)

This upsets me about as much as it's possible for anything in professional sports to upset me. Fortunately, that's not very much at all.

About bloody time. The Cubs can get a good fielder now and Sammy can be a DH, a position which shouldn't exist, but for which he is eminently suited.

It's sad to see Sammy and the Cubs come to this, but after the last couple of years, it was pretty much unrepairable. Let's hope that both sides can bury it and that it turns out to be a fair trade in the end.

Which, really, brings me to a separate point. Barry Bonds has pretty much straight-out admitted steriod use, but I've never hear a word said about Sosa either way. Is it a case of me being blind (we rarely get decent NL coverage here), or did Sosa not go through the suspiciously sudden bulking up that Bonds did?
