Aurora!

Now, that just doesn't happen around here.

Apparently, there's one heck of a solar flare hitting this hemisphere, because the aurora is visible and bright overhead in the Chicago suburbs right now. And we're pretty far south.

It was visible here, even south of you, and what's more, it was covering the whole sky. There was aurora stuff within about 30° of the southern horizon. None of it was very bright, but it was there.

I was able to watch it from my *driveway*, with the streetlights and some of my neighbors' outdoor lights on!

This is NOT the kind of thing you want to read about when you've just seen The Core.

Especially when it's too cloudy here to see anything resembling it.
