Classic Rock A-Z

My local classic rock station, WDRV, is currently playing 2000 songs from their playlist in order from A to Z. They started yesterday, so they're just finishing the Bs now.

Did I mention that they've got streaming audio on their website? :)

Years ago, in the dark ages before mp3s, I created a series of tapes that did that for the Beatles songs. It tends to create some rather screwy combinations.

I did that recently, on MP3. (I made two, actually -- one "straight" and then another of rarities, parodies, and oddities, by Beatles, about Beatles, former Beatles, and so forth.)

Certainly all of those "I..." songs in a row make for an odd period!

The scary thing is that a classic rock station has a playlist of 2000 songs, it's usually about a quarter of that ...

The Drive's a really good station and tends to play quite a lot of classic rock that doesn't get much play elsewhere. The 2,000 song playlist is certainly not their entire collection by any means!

Yes, I heard of a classic rock station manager bragging that he could keep the public happy with the 'Nifty 450' he plays.
I would guess that of the 2000, only about 517 get power-played.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of classic rock radio stations and oldies radio stations and if fact got a HD radio for Christmas last year, so I've been overindulging in the correct mix of oldies--late 50s and 60s (maybe 1970), the classic rock's Deep Tracks/Deep End (celebrating Zeptember this year) and the almost back to the original alternative Planet 96.3, the HD2 channel I just call the 'originals to all those parodies' channel.

There's only one self-identifying classic rock station in Omaha, or so it claims, and I sure don't know any different. But you gotta love a station that plays Simon & Garfunkel and Van Halen.
