Baby, You Can Park My Car

Calvin Trillin apparently has passions other than food. One of them is the quest for the perfect parking space. But when the perfect parking space can't be found, perhaps a self-parking car will do? Apparently not, since it won't park itself in any space that might exist in nature in Manhattan.

Parking space in Manhattan?

Right, that's how you know it's science fiction, not reality!

geez... *I* can park in a space 6-1/2 feet longer than my car, and I parallel park maybe 3 or 4 times a year!

That's just silly. It looks like even once you got used to it, by the time that thing was done parking, I'd already have parked and walked a block. I don't understand what the problem with parking is. All I can figure is that people are intimidated and don't think they can do it, and don't practice it. It's just not hard to do.

Where does one parallel park these days? Around here it's only the on street parking. Anywhere else it's angle parking.
