Cardinals Beat Tigers -- Oh My!

After the way the Cardinals stumbled into the playoffs, I thought they'd be lucky to get out of the first round. I never thought I'd see them winning the World Series. And confounding all the experts, the World Series did end in the five games many of them had predicted, but with the Cardinals coming out on top instead of the Tigers.

The Tigers had a fine team, so I'm fairly sure we'll be seeing more of them in the future. And the Cardinals are now the team with the fewest regular season wins (in seasons not shortened by a strike) to win the World Series.

More than that, Cards shortstop David Eckstein is now the shortest winner of the World Series MVP award. (And from everything I've read and heard, a heckuva nice guy. Apparently, the Corvette he just won is the first new car he's ever owned.)

Whodathunkit?

The juniormost weatherperson on our local CBS affiliate is a lady from St. Louis and an enthusiastic Cardinals fan. At the beginning of the Sports segment of the 10 p.m. news last night, the Sports Guy mentioned that Becky was watching the game on one of their Other Network Monitors and he expected to hear a loud noise from her any second now, because the game was in its last few pitches, with the Cardinals leading.

Instead, she grabbed a Cardinals pennant and leaned into the shot, grinning and waving the pennant maniacally. Totally cracked-up the Sports Guy.

Yeah.. The Card's experience ruled the day. The Tigers suffered from a very young pitching staff... lots of talent little experience.

Next year.. wait till next year.

See Bill, you should have taken the bet!

What you said. After that late-season stall -- or was it a tailspin? -- I wouldn't have believed that the Cards would have become World Series champs.

It was an interesting game to watch, especially near the end.

As much as I hate to admit it (being a Tigers Fan and all), the Cards deserved to win. The Tigers couldn't catch a cold in a kid's day care. It was pitiful to watch.
