Halloween

The kids had fun on Halloween. They went to school in costume, then off to a friend's house where they went trick or treating and then hung out for varying lengths of time.

Despite the periodic snow, we got about 20 kids, which is really pretty good for our block.

We are going to have to find something to do with the leftover candy that does not involve parents eating it...

We haven't done trick-or-treating in years. The neighborhood is slowly transitioning to new families (as people with moved-out children say "why are we still in this big house?" and sell to families with younger children), but there's still not a lot of kids in that age group. I think it's a circle -- no, or few, trick-or-treaters so few houses do it so the kids in the neighborhood go somewhere else for trick-or-treat so even fewer people have their lights on on Halloween.

The last few years that we *did* trick or treat we got (maybe) ten kids (not counting theater kids, who would come by to see DB and take a few pieces of candy). Even putting two or three pieces in each bag left us with more candy than we wanted to eat. And there's only so much we can take to November gatherings, especially since we weren't the only people bringing leftover Halloween candy.

Don't bury it in the yard :-)
