Gloom, despair, and agony on me (Oh-h-H-H-h-h),
Deep, dark depression, excessive misery (Oh-h-H-H-h-h),
If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all (Oh-h-H-H-h-h),
Gloom, despair, and agony on me....

"When I got into filking, it was for funny stuff ..."

I remember an OVFF around 1994 - I think it was my first or second con ever - when the songwriting contest was "Less Ose" because the previous year had been all doom and gloom!

There was one year it was "anti-ose"; I don't know if you're thinking of the same one, or if they did both. Paul Kwinn's "Stop Singing Ose or I'll Kill You" was one of the entries; I think it won, but I'm not sure.

Oh, and I don't know if she originated this but I still remember vividly one of my very first filks, at ConFusion. In the back of the room listening with Gwen Zak. Her comment "Ose, Ose, More ose... how about some cheeri ose?" groan.....

Dead-on, deadpan parody of the real thing (and as a long-term member of the Dummies clan, I've seen quite a few of those). I suspect that at least some percentage of the "Dummies" books have been given as gag gifts (a la the Bottle of Scope in the Mailbox -- little dated reference there) -- for example, sending a copy of "Sex For Dummies" to a friend (or ex-friend, or soon-to-be-ex-friend) -- though if you try that, you might want to get "Estate Planning For Dummies" first.
