Success! I have hooked up the Project Mix I/O to Cubase SX and have recorded a scratch track, a guitar track, and a vocal track, monitoring through the new interface.
Bill, I am looking into picking up a ProjectMix I/O soon, and I just had a couple of questions on it before I buy.
1. Do the LED displays for the rotary encoders work in Cubase SX? In other words, does it display the parameter name the knob controls?
2. What all was involved in getting the control surface portion working in Cubase SX? What template did you use, and did you have to do any kind of firmware update to get it to work?
The biggest reason I'm so interested in this is becuase I'm looking for an audio interface/control surface that I can use both at home in the studio, and on the road connected to my laptop. The Project Mix I/O seems ideal for this, but I want to make sure of a few things before dishing out around $1,300 for it...

Understand that my use of the unit has been limited to very early experimentation. That said:
Yes, the LED displays did indicate what I was working on. However, I didn't do an exhaustive test of this, so I can't tell you whether everything displayed. It was clear to me what channel I was on and what the knob was doing, but I didn't try nearly every combination.
As far as getting the control surface working, well, that was just trivial. I followed the setup instructions for the Project Mix and set Cubase (latest version) to believe that the unit was a Mackie Control and all was right with the world. The only thing that's tricky at all is mapping the I/O and that's really not hard, more just a matter of learning what I'm doing on both sides. I'm really a Cubase novice.
